Williamston, NC John Ward Perry left the struggles of this world behind January 25, 2017 surrounded by his daughters. Ward, as he was known, resided at Weaver Drive prior to Brookdale Assisted Living of Greenville. Ward was born March 18, 1935, the 6th child of nine born to Simon Amos Perry, Sr. and Ellen Ward Perry, known as T-Nel. Ward graduated in 1954 from Williamston High School where he played on two state championship football teams that created a life-long love of sports. He was an avid fan of Carolina Panthers football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and all ACC college basketball
Ward married Ann House in August 1954. Together they parented three girls, Cathy, Robin, and Janet. Ward Later remarried Eleanor Howie of Belmont, NC making their home in the Charlotte area for 35 years before returning to Williamston in 2002. Ward worked most of his years in transportation and freight delivery. He retired from Estes Freight Line in 1997 as the senior operator in the Charlotte terminal.
Ward had a love for fishing that was instilled in each of his girls and many of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always happy with whatever was biting.
Ward was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eleanor, and siblings Marie Coltrain, Simon Amos Perry, Jr, Bridgeman Perry, and Bobby Perry. He leaves many to cherish his memory including daughters Cathy and Ed Ottman of Williamston, Robin Perry of Williamston, and Janet and Rickey Ringer of Ernul, NC along with 5 grandchildren Christy Price, Chellie Savage, David Simpson, Melinda Whitaker, and Travis Oakley; and 7 great-grandchildren Cirsty Price, Haven Price, Kody White, Gage Savage, Landon Simpson, Mikayla Oakley, and Alyssa Oakley. He is also survived by siblings Eleanor Peele, Tupper Perry, Pearl Corey, and Sylvia Day.
The family will have a visitation Sunday January 29 at Biggs Funeral Home 1-2:30 PM with graveside service at Perry Family Cemetery on Highway 17 South of Williamston. At other times the family can be located at Robin Perry's residence located at 205 Victoria Avenue Williamston.
