James "Jack" Wynn

Jack was born on April 28, 1933 in Martin County, NC. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents Archie Wynn and Hettie Harrison Wynn Ward; sister Hazel W. Harden; and brothers L.B. Wynn and W. Harold Wynn. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Idonia Newbern Wynn; his children; James A. Wynn Jr. and spouse Donna; Bradford S. Wynn; Diane W. Stollings and spouse Gregory. His grandchildren Curtis J. Wynn and spouse Heather; Beth S. Anderson and spouse Ryan; Andrew B. Wynn and spouse Lauren; Amy S. Watson and spouse David; Emily W. Nicoletti and spouse Joshua. He was blessed with his wonderful great grandchildren; Carter, Delaney, Annabelle, Grayson, Dylan, Zoey, and Olivia: his brother Ronald D. Wynn and spouse Lucy; his sister Joyce W. Hester and spouse Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

After growing up in the farming community of Martin County, he moved to Norfolk, VA in 1952 to work with his brothers at Mansfield Company. After being called into active duty, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. After leaving the Army he went to work with Climate Makers. He began a rewarding career with the U.S. Army/Navy Public Works at Fort Story Virginia, and retired in 1988.

He met his wife, Idonia, in Norfolk and they were married on June 11, 1955. He raised his family in Virginia Beach, VA and was a long-time member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. He served as deacon and as youth Sunday School teacher for many years. We still receive words of appreciation from many of the young boys he mentored as to the positive influence he was in their lives.

After retirement, he returned to his hometown of Williamston, NC, where he was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and in many other ministries to his church and community.

He was a jack-of-all trades, and was always ready to share his many gifts and talents to help others. He loved fishing and the great outdoors, and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the wonder of God’s creation.

What a true and beautiful legacy he leaves his family; always teaching us how to live our lives each and every day with integrity, strong principles, a strong Christian faith, and love for our Heavenly Father. He is adored by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 on Saturday June 24 at Memorial Baptist Church, Williamston, NC. The family would be honored to receive family and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:45. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, VA on Tuesday June 27 at 2:00.
