Born in Fort Wayne, IN., Winifred retired from a career in Health
Care Food Services at Ingham County Medical Care Facility, also
worked at Sears Department store and the Williamston schools.
Preceded in death by her husbands; Dexter D. Thornton in 1961,
Henry Hitchcock in 1989, grandson Tony Thornton, parents; Bertha
(Sorg) and Leo Fox, brother Edwin Fox, three sons, Michael, Patrick
& Douglas Thornton. She is survived by son, Dallas (Katie) Thornton,
daughters, Crystal (Dallas) Hyde, Margie (Virgil) Romig, Vivian Laux, Rita Stout, three stepchildren, Dale (Sharon) Hitchcock,
Dean (Chris) Hitchcock and Judy (John) Lay, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winifred was an active lifelong
member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamston. Her family and friends will dearly miss her contagious smile and presence. There will be a mass Wednesday April 24, 11 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church 157 High St. in Williamston with Rev. Peter J. Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday April 22, from 6-8pm and Tuesday, April 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 with the Scripture prayed at 7:30pm. Interment will be at Greendale Cemetery in Shepherd, MI. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Waverly Rd., Suite 304, Lansing, MI 48910 in memory of Winifred.
