Shelby was born on March 16, 1939 in Cheboygan, Michigan to Maurice and Burnadette McKay. She graduated from Cheboygan High School and married her husband, Jim DeYoung, in 1958 before moving to the Williamston area where the two of them spent 44 beautiful years together before Jim's passing in 2002. Shelby was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Williamston for more than 60 years. She enjoyed baking cakes, quilting, and being active in the church.
Shelby is survived by her children, Andrew DeYoung, Debbie Buurstra (John), Maurice DeYoung (Susie), James DeYoung (Lori), and Kathy Temple (Mark); nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her sister, Harriet. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim DeYoung; and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Williamston, 157 High St., Williamston, MI 48895.
