Milo Ray Gaffner, 72, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 in Battle Creek, MI. He was born on September 19, 1947 in Lansing, MI, the son of Wilford and Frances (Whims) Gaffner. He served the United States Army in Vietnam. Milo held many jobs and titles before retiring, but his favorite was auto sales at Al Serra Ford in Lansing.
Milo enjoyed many things in life, but his passion was sports and family. As a professional fastpitch softball pitcher, it afforded him many opportunities to travel around the Midwest playing for some of the best teams in the country, with his family there to watch him. After his playing days were over, he remained active coaching his two sons, Kyle and Kacey. He also enjoyed watching sports, working on projects with his stepfather O.D., having family over, and hearing all about the grand kids' activities and sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father O.D. Eaton, and brother, Willie Gaffner. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pamela (Stelzer) Gaffner; sister-in-law Patsie (Stover) Gaffner; son Kyle (Katie), grandchildren Drew and Samantha; son Kacey (Alison), grandchildren Mason, Lauren, and Caitlin; and daughter Laurie Proctor, grandchildren Sean, Logan, Connor, and Cameron.
Our family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Ward 84-2 at the Battle Creek Veteran's Facility where Milo received outstanding care for the past 8 years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Battle Creek VA Medical Center, Community and Volunteer Service (135), 5500 Armstrong Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037. It is important to write “GPF #1039” on the memo line on the checks or include it in their note if donating cash.
