Mike Misailedes, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and “Grumpsy” passed away Tuesday January 16th, 2024.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Sam and Yvonne Misailedes, Mike was the youngest of four children. The family moved to Williamston in 1972 and Mike graduated from WHS in 1985 and Michigan State University in 1992 with a degree in Social Policy Analysis. He began his career at the State of Michigan over 30 years ago. The majority of his tenure was in IT within the Department of Technology Management and Budget.
As a life long resident of Williamston. Mike enjoyed the many benefits of a life well lived in a tight knit community. He loved his home and found solace and tranquility there. If you are remembering Mike, you may be recalling his booming laughter, or smiling at his quick wit or had received one of his hearty greetings.
Music was essential to Mike’s life. It inspired him to create beautiful hand made cigar box guitars. His taste was eclectic and his knowledge encyclopedic. He could marvel many a mind with the amount of historic information and trivia he could cite in his animated conversations. His vast knowledge was expanded daily with his love of books, articles and keeping up on world events.
Love came to Mike in 1992 in the form of a beautiful woman named Nancy Taranto and her vivacious, sweet Monica. His life was solidified. Over the next thirty plus years, Mike and Nancy built a life full of love, laughter, family and friends. They were soul mates that balanced each other perfectly, a true love story that lasted the test of time.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Sam, his mother Yvonne, and his nephew Tony Petersen. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Monica; granddaughter Arabella Luke; sisters Marla Collins; Celeste McMillian and Melanie Stover (Ken Leiter); brother John; brother-in-law Ric Taranto; nieces and nephews Travis, Logan, Jacob (Amanda), Elena, Elijah, Ruth, Ezekiel, Faith, Adam, AJ (Allie), Josh, Luke and Karley.
Mike had many close life long friends that he also loved dearly. The many close relationships he cultivated over the years is a testament to his beautiful heart and soul. His coworkers and colleagues were also a very important part of his life. Even with those he just met, he was quick to extend a hand or kind word. No matter who you were, Mike had an uncanny way of putting you at ease and made you feel comfortable.
Mike exemplified the definition of a true sports fan, as loyalty was a cornerstone of his character. He was proud and supportive of his favorite teams in both good seasons and disappointing ones. There was no need for him to “drink the kool aid” as he was true Honalulu Blue from the beginning. (Go Lions!) He also had the great pleasure of enjoying golf outings with his buds. Baseball was especially dear to him as his father had once played professionally. Playing catch with Nancy on that same field was a cherished memory of his.
Mike’s passing has left an immeasurable hole in the many lives he touched. His giving nature is illustrated by his last final act of kindness of his organ donation to the Gift of Life organization. Mike will live on and continue to touch lives for many years to come. In an ironic twist of fate, Mike’s earthly body began and ended in Ann Arbor the town of his beloved Wolverines. Go Blue!
In lieu of flowers, consider doing something kind for someone in Mike's memory.
