Kevin Jay Coykendall, 62, passed away after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his family at home on September 25th, 2022. Kevin is survived by his wife, Shannon of 36 years, his daughters Samantha (Nick) and Victoria, his father Guy, and his sister Suzy.
Kevin was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on December 20th, 1959. Kevin grew up in Southfield, Michigan and graduated from Southfield Lathrup High School where he was a varsity swimmer. After high school, Kevin attended Michigan State University where he majored in Mathematics and received his teaching certificate. At MSU, he met the love of his life, Shannon, and they were married at the MSU Alumni chapel in September of 1986. After graduation, Kevin started his long-time career with General Motors, first at the Lansing headquarters and then transitioned to the Warren Tech Center where he worked for over 35 years as a Enterprise Technical Integration Lead for Teamcenter/PDM - as the Teamcenter Business Owner. Kevin received numerous awards and recognition for his and the team's contributions over the years. He and his wife Shannon moved to Williamston, Michigan to begin their family and have resided there for over 30 years.
Kevin enjoyed a vast array of hobbies - he was a NOAA local weather observer, member of the Anglers of the Ausable where he served as a board member, Trout Unlimited member, McCormick Park playscape building and upkeep crew, hobby beer brewer and distiller, LifeRemodeled volunteer, softball/t-ball/soccer coach for his daughters, and most importantly a dance dad - where he would build fantastic stage sets, props, and even make dancing appearances. He also enjoyed the hobby of boating - from handcrafted drift boats and stripwood canoes to large sailboats and the party pontoon. When he wasn't on the water or outdoors, Kevin enjoyed restoring cars and his Harley motorcycle. Kevin even took up the hobby of running - participating in turkey trots and team relays with friends and family. Kevin would tie his own flies for fly fishing, work on woodworking projects, and enjoyed going up north to the family cabin to visit local breweries and spend time snowmobiling and kayaking. Most of all, Kevin loved to help family and friends with any project or task - if you had an idea, Kevin could build it!
Following Kevin’s wishes, no memorial or service will take place. Kevin will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Any donations in memory of Kevin can be directed to Anglers of the Ausable or the Capital Area Humane Society.
