Janice Edna (Kellerman) Dyke, age 93, of Williamston, Michigan, passed away on December 4, 2022. She was born November 6, 1929, in Lansing, Michigan to Floyd Kellerman and Beatrice (Hethorn) Kellerman.
Jan grew up in Lansing and attended Sexton High School, where she was a talented performer in school and community musical productions. After studying at Michigan State University, she married William “Bill” Dyke of Lansing on June 2, 1951. They soon relocated to the Detroit suburbs, and lived in Northville for more than 25 years.
Jan was a devoted wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Northville, serving as a soloist in the choir, participating in Bible studies, and working with fellow church members on service projects. She also worked as a blood bank volunteer with the American Red Cross.
When she wasn’t tending to the flowers in her backyard gardens, Jan enjoyed collecting antiques, interior decorating, sewing, bird-watching, basket-weaving and other crafts. She became a skilled watercolor painter in her 70s.
While raising her children, Jan played a key role in orchestrating numerous family camping trips, traveling to state and national parks throughout Michigan and the U.S. Later in life, the family cottage on Lake Michigan became Jan’s summer focus. She loved walking on the beach and watching sunsets on the Big Lake.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Bill; sister Leslie (Kellerman) Kelly; son Brian Dyke; daughter Karen (Dyke) Reiff and son-in-law Mark Strolle; daughter Paula (Dyke) Detwiller; brother-in-law Frank Dyke; sister-in-law Sandy Dyke (Denny) Davis; five nieces and nephews; four grandchildren -- Lauren (Tom) Drennen, Dan Reiff, Alex Dyke and Tyler Dyke; and great-grandchildren Liam and Miles Drennen.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry, and her parents, Floyd and Beatrice.
A celebration of life will be held for Jan at Family Life Wesleyan Church, 3720 Rowley Rd., Williamston, Michigan, on Friday, December 9, with visitation beginning at noon and the service at 1 p.m. A private burial will follow.
