Janet Merle Card, beloved mother, Gramsie, sister, aunt, and friend, was called out of this world peacefully by her Lord and Savior on May 12, 2024. She was 85 years old, just 8 weeks shy of her 86th birthday.
Janet was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 13, 1938 to Dorothy S. and Merlin J.F. Mielke. She was baptized and confirmed in the Wisconsin Lutheran church. She married her ex-husband John H Card on July 14, 1956. She lived a life of service to her Lord, in Saginaw and later when she moved to Williamston. She was a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and served the Altar Guild, Ladies Fellowship Group, and various committees. She volunteered at school and daycare. She also did volunteer work outside of her church, especially at the Williamston Senior Center. When she was able to help, she always did it with a smile on her face. Janet’s favorite job was being a full time mom, but in the mid 1980s she started her own singing telegram/entertainment business, Hugg E. Bear and Friends in Saginaw, Michigan. She retired 10+ years ago, but Hugg E. Bear made a special appearance at last year’s talent show at Ingham County Care Facility in Okemos, Michigan. Janet was recently diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer.
Janet touched everyone she met with her sweet words and bold faith. Her motto for her later years was, ”If you have a pulse, God still has a purpose for you!” She was blessing people with kind words and telling them about trusting in God, our loving Savior. She loved to sing “Jesus Loves Me” which will be sung at her funeral service.
Loved ones who survive her are her three children: Dr. Steven Card (Kathy), Scott Card RN (Vicki), and Susan Clark (Howard), ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, sister Kathleen Gorr, sister-in -law Haelani Mielke, two nieces, two nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, niece Elana Mielke, ex-husband John H Card, brother-in-law Larry Gorr and brother David Mielke.
The funeral will take place at Memorial Lutheran Church (1022 W.Grand River Ave. Williamston, MI 48895) on Friday, May 17, 2024. The visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11am with the funeral service beginning at 11am.
