Dearest Charlie, I thank God for your quick passage to be with Him. I will recall with joy that at our 1957 introduction we both immediately knew we would spend the rest of our lives together. I will cherish the memories of our 4 year engagement and the 54 years of marriage we celebrated April 8th. I hold closely the memories of our only child Kevin who answered God’s call on April 26, 2008, and enjoy his son, Joshua Wilkinson, born in 1989.
I have pride that you were in the Army Airborne 101 “Screaming Eagles” during our engagement years. I’ll enjoy the results of your 33 years at Sears in Lansing where you worked as an Appliance Technician repairing nearly everything mechanical sold for an household environment. Others in our Sears family will miss you at the Lansing weekly breakfast you began in 1998. And the annual camping trips we all shared as our kids grew up.
I will miss your talent as a guitarist and the country music as you sang the latest songs that you wrote. I will miss the annual “Deer Camp” here and freezer full of venison, also the bluegills caught in your ice fishing locally and summer ones from the river running past our cottage near Gladwin. Your hard work in our gardens and orchard will be missed by me and the neighbors. I love that you always brought me the first pussy willows from outback.
I will care for this 1870’s house we’ve lived in the last 43 years of our love and recall all the work you did rehabbing it and our place up north which I helped my parents build in 1952.
You have shared our joyous high spots and grievous lows of our earthly path, and we will continue the journey in our Heavenly journey. Meanwhile I will enjoy your living family: sisters Elpha (Glenden Murray), Fran (Glen Day) and Ellen Joyce (Dennis Day) (Norman Shipley) and brother Lawrence (Jeanene Bruner). I fondly recall your deceased brothers: Robert and George Bruner, sisters Vera (Elmer Grove), Florence (Rob Ridley) (Kenneth Rhines) and Inez Nancy (Rowland Thomas) (Earl Mills) and all of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their Uncle Charlie Elmer. I loved and learned from your parents Francis Dewey Bruner and Inez Molesworth Bruner of Gladwin.
I am grateful we shared our worship as members of the Ohio Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quaker) attendees of Hockaday Community Church, since childhood and currently at Columbia Road Baptist Church in Mason.
As you kissed me as you left my side every time since we were married, “I’ll see you later.”
With everlasting love, Patricia.
