William Earl Perkins, Jr. ‘Bill’, 79, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on ¬March 7, 2022. He was born March 9th, 1942 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Bessie Mae Perkins and William Earl Perkins, Sr. Preceding him in death is also his step father, Henry ‘Hank’ Keeney.
Bill lost his father at 6 months old to a plane crash in 1942 during WWII. William Sr was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force. Bill Jr. later went on to attend and graduate from Hargrave Military Academy. He was a 1976 graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia. Bill attended Lynchburg College for four years and completed his degree at Christopher Newport University.
He was a beloved member of the Williamsburg community for many years. He and Linda moved to Williamsburg in 1972 and he devoted his 30-year career in banking to Central Fidelity Bank where he was named Vice President and manager of the Williamsburg office, retiring in 2000. They lived in Williamsburg for 45 years, moving in 2017 to be closer to their children and grandchildren in North Carolina. While in Williamsburg, they were long time members of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club.
His greatest and most heartfelt passion was Linda. He enjoyed traveling everywhere with her, watching and playing golf, the New York Yankees and Major League baseball. In the last several years he and Linda successfully visited every Major League baseball stadium in the US. He also enjoyed being part of their Williamsburg bowling league and was an avid fan of UVA basketball and football.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; son Craig (wife Dana), son Michael and daughter April (husband Ross); his brother David (wife Mary); 6 grandchildren (Nick, Nathan, MacKenzie, Alissa, Robbie, Jimmy); 5 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Bill was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 19th at 4:00PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia.
