William Bucy Bynum, 82, died surrounded by family, and went to be with his Lord on August 17, 2017. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Carolyn Jeannette Bynum, his two sisters, Betty Homan and Martha Jenkins, and his legacy, three children, Alison Miller and her husband Eddie, Anne Wall and her husband Jeff, and Michael Bynum and his wife Susan; seven grandchildren, Kelcey, Ross, Jack, Matthew, Sarah, Scott and Kate (deceased). He also had a special place in his heart for Joley Eason Steffens and her family.
Bill was a 23-year Williamsburg resident after retirement from the Federal Highway Administration in Washington D.C. He held many leadership roles in Walnut Hills Baptist Church and performed several volunteer assignments with Jamestown Foundation and Faith In Action. His life was full of friendships, from Walnut Hills as well as from his assignments across the Southeast, his membership at Providence Baptist Church in McLean, Virginia and his early days in Shannon, Mississippi.
He loved family and friends, the New York Yankees, traveling the world, sharing his insights, playing golf, reading a wide variety of literature, and enjoying a nice glass of wine.
A celebration of his life will be held at Walnut Hills Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 19, 2017. The Reverend Doctor Jerry Haywood, Pastor Emeritus, will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Walnut Hills Baptist Church Building Fund or the College of William & Mary Baptist Campus Ministries.
