Walter Zadan, age 95, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. Walter was born March 4, 1927. Born and raised in Linden and Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Penn State University with a major in Food Service Management. His greatest pleasure was teaching culinary arts to students at a culinary college after retirement and grooming a new generation of cooks for the service industry. He had a 50 year career as a volunteer in various environmental protection groups. He was one of one hundred air pollution control volunteers from across the country invited and honored at a White House function chaired by President Carter for their work in promoting the Clean Air Act. Walter was also a 20 year volunteer at Colonial Williamsburg and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation where he was voted volunteer of the year twice. His many achievements are chronicled by the entire delegation of the Virginia Legislature by being honored in House Joint Resolution No. 345 in March, 2022. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Zdanovich and Mary Bayko, and his sister, Anne Sacks. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June Zadan; sister, Helen Zdanovich; daughter, Claire Conley (Jason); son, Thomas Zadan (Beth); and four grandchildren, Mason, Sawyer, Alexandra, and Lila. His was a life of achievement and work well done. Friends and family will be received at Nelsen Funeral Home at 3785 Strawberry Plains Road in Williamsburg from 1:00 to 5:00PM on Saturday, October 1.
