Walter Nelson Marshall, III, “Bubby” died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at home after a brief illness. Born April 22, 1938 in Connecticut, except for a brief time he had lived all his life in the James City County Area.
Bubby is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Nelson, Jr. and Esther Tyssen Marshall, and his brother, William Arne “Billy” Marshall.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma, sons William Wesley (Liz) and Shawn Marshall, sister Esther “Dean” Ehlert (Warren) all of Toano, and a large extended family.
Bubby led a varied life of fun and work. He was a champion rodeo cowboy, operated and retired from his own heavy construction business, loved boats and fishing and especially loved his and anyone else’s old cars. He was a master carpenter and could make any piece of wood into a thing of beauty. But some of his most beautiful assets were his warm smile, poetic sense of humor and his knack of never meeting a stranger. He was a friend to all and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be December 19, 2015 at 12:00 noon with a memorial service following at 1:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or the James City County-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Toano, VA. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
