Virginia Lee Simons Blowe was born on April 6, 1932 and departed this life peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 17, 2022. She was the consummate daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 bountiful years, Lenrod L. Blowe, whom she affectionately called, “my boyfriend,” even in the last weeks of her life.
She was a life-long learner who understood the value and power of an education. She especially encouraged young people to pursue and use their education for good. Her motto was, “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.”
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and lived her entire life in consistent and committed service to God. Virginia leaves a legacy to all who knew her, but especially to her family. She was a woman of peace, integrity, courage, and strength. She was full of wisdom which she dispensed with enthusiasm and without condition. Most significant was the seemingly limitless and unconditional love she had for her family.
Virginia is survived by her children: Lamont L. Blowe (Nancy Fiske) of Whiting, NJ; Dr. Vanessa A. Blowe of Chesapeake, VA; Paulette V. Blowe, PhD and Melanie V. Speller of Charles City, VA; and two grandchildren, Alfred and Adrienne Speller. Virginia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Arnethia Blowe of Whiting, NJ and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg, 23188 with burial to follow at 2:00pm at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 1000 E Indian River Rd, Norfolk, 23523.
