Valerie Jean Carr

This world has suffered a great loss on March 12, 2024, the beautiful and very loving, Valerie Jean Smith-Carr, has passed away from complications of Frontal Lobe Damentia. She was born to the late Bernie Smith and Irene Johnson on March 17, 1950.

She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of over 37 years, US Coast Guard Retired MKC V. Jay Carr; her daughter, Jenee and her husband Chris Canny; and her son, Joshua and wife Alyssa Carr; and her seven grandchildren who she adored oh so very much. Also surviving are her sisters, Bernice Davidson, and Jennifer and her husband David Taylor; and her brother, Jamie and his wife Teresa Smith.

Valerie was born and raised in Huntington, WV, attended Marshall University and graduated with an Elementary Education Degree. She taught in Henry County, VA; Lincoln County and Cabell County, WV; Rye, NH; and was an Elementary kindergarten teacher at Norge for 19 years, and retired from Williamsburg-James City County Schools.

She loved her family, enjoyed her lifelong friends, but most of all she loved to GO--She did not care when or where, just GO. She did make two road trips across the United States to see some wonderful and amazing things. Valerie enjoyed vacationing with friends and family at the beach as well as the mountains. Her loss will be felt by so many, and she will be forever loved and missed.

Arrangements will be made at a later date for a celebration of her life.
