Ruth was born in Sewards, MD on 10/31/1932 to the late Joseph Willey Jr and Stella Olivia Mills.
After graduation from high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked as a bookkeeper for S. S. Kresge Co. Through a friend, she met her late husband of 58 years Thomas Earle Evans. They were married in Augusta, GA in 1952.
After raising 7 children, she worked for the State of Maryland as a baker in the Prince Georges’ County, MD school system.
During her retirement years in Berlin, MD, she spent many years as a Hospice volunteer. She also was actively involved in an AARP sponsored community group of widows and widowers as well as serving as President for the organization for 3 years. As a member of St. John Newman parish, she volunteered in the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. In 2015, she moved to Williamsburg VA to be closer to her family. As a resident of Verena at the Reserve, she created and hosted a book club and volunteered in their library. In 2017, she became a Joyful Servant providing prayers for those need.
She is survived by her children, Michael Evans of St. Mathews, SC; Thomas Evans of Westminster, MD; Linda (Wayne) Stollar of St. Charles, MO; Mary (Paul) Carrico of Williamsburg, VA; Kathy (Kevin) Fast of Vienna, VA; and Brenda (Greg) Clapper of Toano, VA; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Eric Evans; great-grandson, Wendell Allan Wiley; brothers Ray Willey, Joseph Bryd Willey, Levi Willey Sr., Guy Willey; and sisters Edna Willey Wheatley, Ruby Willey Abbott, Helen Willey Walk and Anna Mae Marsh.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to your favorite charity.
A private family service and burial will be held at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
