Richard “Red” Newman Stratton, born July 24, 1937, of Williamsburg, Virginia, died Friday, February 8, 2019, surrounded by family. Richard was the son of the late Dorothy and Joseph Stratton, of Newport News, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann (Saunders) Stratton. Richard is survived by his children, Valerie and Kelly Stratton, Scotti Harwood and husband Dan Dunlop, Carlton Harwood and wife Melissa (Missy); Grand Children, Jessica Richardson, John Weidman, Daniel Ordonia II, Meg Cowan, Skylar Mailhes, Sydney and Carter Harwood; Great Grandchildren, Layla Weidman and Lucy Richardson.
Richard graduated from York High School and began his apprenticeship to become an electrician. He was active in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union Chapter 1340 and, after becoming a Master Electrician, taught at the IBEW Apprenticeship program and enjoyed mentoring apprentices. Richard established and ran Olde Town Electric in 1978 until he retired in 2009. He was very active in community organizations and charities. Richard was a deacon and active member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason with the Williamsburg Shriners Club, Treasurer for 30 years for the Williamsburg Rotary Club, Master Gardner, and was a volunteer organizer for the Occasion for the Arts for more than a decade.
A memorial service will be held at 1p.m., Monday, February 11 at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund for Community Outreach which supports local charities to the attention of Rev.
