Rachel Childress

Rachel was born in Nashville, TN. She met her husband, Claude, while he was stationed in Nashville during the war. After their marriage they lived in Grundy, VA and Radford, VA before moving to Williamsburg in 1960. She was a 25 year retiree from Colonial Williamsburg. She was active in garden club and Williamsburg Baptist Church. Rachel moved into Lakewood Manor Retirement Community in Richmond a few years after her husband died. She had an active life at Lakewood Manor and enjoyed a large circle of friends.

Rachel was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her home and living in Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Claude; and by her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Guy Rogers; granddaughter, Christina, all of Richmond; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Justice of Grundy, VA, Audrey Childress of Maryville, TN, Esther Childress of Mouthcard, KY; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188 on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3:00pm- 5:00pm. Funeral service will be held at the Williamsburg Baptist Church, 227 Richmond Road, Williamsburg VA 23185 on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 1:00pm, followed by interment at Williamsburg Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Lakewood Manor in Richmond, VA.
