Patricia (“Pat”) Spang Ogden, 91, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Ogden was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, the daughter of Murray G. and Ruth Gershel Spang on February 4, 1926.
A graduate of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, Mrs. Ogden taught English and Latin at Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and English and Creative Writing in Westfield, New Jersey. She also studied at the College of William and Mary, Rutgers University, Christopher Newport University and Seton Hall University. At Worthington Corporation in Harrison, New Jersey, she was copyrighter and editor of a sales newsletter as well as a contributor of articles for stock managers, published by the advertising department.
In 1961, Mrs. Ogden married Howard A. Ogden, a young naval officer. She accompanied him on tours of duty to Italy and Japan. Returning to the states in 1972, her husband, now retired, pursued a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Upon completion of the program, he accepted the position of library director for the City of Hampton, VA. Mrs. Ogden then taught in the Hampton School system for 15 years. In 1993, four years after her husband’s death, Mrs. Ogden moved to Kingsmill in Williamsburg, where she was involved in numerous activities sponsored by the Kingsmill Women’s Club.
Mrs. Ogden served as secretary of the Peninsula Catholic School Board, a board member for the Officer's Wives Club in Sasebo Japan, and publicity chair for the Willow Oaks Garden Club. She also worked as an interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, and was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Ogden was loved by many for her keen sense of humor, entertaining stories and elegant sense of style.
Mrs. Ogden is survived by her daughters, Carol Ogden Swindell and her husband Gregory, of Williamsburg, VA, Janet Ogden Bell and her husband Dave, of Williamsburg, VA and Patricia Ogden of San Diego, CA; as well as her granddaughter Jennifer Hayden and her husband Joseph Cunningham, grandsons Jacob and Joseph Bell, and great granddaughter Genevieve Cunningham, all of Williamsburg, VA. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert H. Spang.

Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA on March 14, 2017 from 4PM to 6PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bede’s Catholic Church on March 15, 2017 at 11AM, followed by an interment at Hampton National Cemetery.
