Monroe Stephen David

Monroe S. David, 85, unexpectedly passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on December 28, 2023 after a medical procedure. Born on August 18, 1938 in Westfield, MA., he was the son of Rev. Casimir David and Mildred (Mennen) David.

Monroe graduated from Valparaiso University in 1960 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts – Business Administration. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from the John Marshall Law School Chicago and passed the Illinois Bar Exam in 1965. After a long and successful career in business during which time he became Vice President of Personnel for Kraft Foods, he returned to his law career passing the Tennessee Bar Exam in 1993.

Monroe was a lifelong Christian and member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He served in many capacities as a dedicated layman at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Memphis, TN. An avid baritone singer, he was a member of the elite Rhodes College Singers. He was also member of the Memphis Soaring Society earning his private glider pilot license in 2000.

In 2017, Monroe moved to Williamsburg, VA., where he developed deep roots in the community. He served as an executive member of the Williamsburg Choral Guild, Treasurer of the Waterford Homeowners Association and sang in the King of Glory Lutheran Church choir.

Monroe is survived by his wife, Barbara (Behnke) David. He is also survived by his sons, Stephen (Kelly) David, Todd (Lisa) David, sister Martha Sienkiewicz and brothers, Rev. Dr. Norman (Donna) David, John (Heike) David and Tom (Linda) David. Monroe is survived by five grandchildren: Mark David, Andrew (Jenna) David, Grant David, Taylor (Jeremiah) Harvey and Abigail (Benjamin) Westbrock. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Evan David, Jaedon David, Juliana David, Quintin Harvey, Jackson Westbrock, Addison David, and Charles Westbrock.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held on January 13, 2024 2pm at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Rd., Williamsburg, VA., 23188. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the King of Glory Music Ministry.
