Joan was born in Peterborough, England, November 9, 1939 where she stoically never gave up her citizenship. She was raised, educated and began working there when in 1961, she was swept off her feet by a handsome United States Air Force officer at RAF Alconbury. The two were married, moved to the States and spent 54 wonderful years together before David’s passing in 2016. During these years she spent most of her time raising two loving sons, Stephen and Kevin, who gave them six grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Professionally, Joan spent her career in the hospitality industry, ultimately working as director of sales for several prominent properties in the Williamsburg area. She cherished the relationships she developed through those years and officially retired in 2013.
Joan was a lover of the beach and all things DOGS. She purchased a condo in her beloved Outer Banks and any chance she could get she was there with one of her four-legged friends. It was her sanctuary, her hobby, her favorite place to be.
Joan is survived by her loving sons Stephen (Laura) and Kevin (Molly); her six lucky grandchildren: Brandon, Olivia, Emmy, Gracie, Andrew and David, and four great-grandchildren.
A very special thanks to the amazing staff at Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg, where she resided for the last 8 years. In particular, the housing in The Crossings and then Clare Bridge. It takes a very special person to provide care as they did, but the love that went along with it we could not ask for more.
A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg on Saturday, November 19 at 1pm with a private interment to follow.
