

He was born in Denver, Colorado on April 5, 1943 and was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Coalgate, and his beloved cats, Charles Dickens, Winston and Clementine Churchill, and Sophie. His love with Barbara brought so much joy to his life.
He attended MIT, Salem College (1965 – 1966) and Ohio University (1996), receiving higher degrees in chemistry and geology.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army as well as an environmental scientist for the U.S. Government. He was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, volunteered at the House of Mercy and Williamsburg Public Library, and the “No-kill” shelter Humane Society.
His passion for preserving the environment was not only reflected in his work but through his hobbies. Jerry loved going for long walks through nature and listening to the rain. He also loved animals, often feeing the birds at the beach. Additionally, he was an avid book reader, owning thousands of books.
Jerry is survived by the friends who cared for him, Beverly Walker and Melinda Richard.
