Janice Leslie Peters, age 83, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was born and educated in Lawrence, Massachusetts, graduating with a degree in business management from Merrimack College in North Andover. Initially employed by the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, Massachusetts, her position there led to employment with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington, D.C., and a corresponding move to Springfield and then later Alexandria, Virginia.
Janice’s employment led her to travels to a number of locations and cities, with many acquaintances and friendships developing over the years. Paris, France, proved to be a lifelong favorite, fondly remembered in the artwork throughout her home. Her government employment in Washington led to several notable friendships including those of the 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps General Al Gray and his wife Jan. She was their frequent guest at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., and at their home. Upon retirement from the FAA Janice returned to her original birthplace, residing in Methuen, Massachusetts, before relocating to Williamsburg, Virginia.
Over her lifetime Janice enjoyed many activities including arts and crafts, flower arrangement, needlepoint, cross stitch and interior design. She was sports oriented, an avid fan of the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady and a consistent booster for golfer Tiger Woods. Scrabble, local theater and dining out were all passions she enjoyed with her many neighbors and friends in Williamsburg.
Janice was predeceased by her parents Abraham and Sally Peters, also of Lawrence, Massachusetts. She leaves behind many close friends, cherished cousins and her long-term ‘surrogate’ family in Virginia, John and Margaret Cochran, their daughters Jacqueline Hanlon and Julia Izadjoo, their husbands and their seven children to whom she was a much-loved and cherished ‘Aunt Jan.’
A lifelong member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Lawrence, a Mass of Christian Burial is anticipated for Spring 2025. A memorial service in her honor will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church, Williamsburg, Virginia, at a date to be determined.
