Born March 23, 1947 to Stanley and Shirley Smith in Butler, Pennsylvania, Jim grew up as the youngest of seven children on their small family farm.
Jim lived his life in the service and protection of others, serving in the United States Army for 20 years before retiring as a First Sergeant and continuing to work in civil service. In retirement, he spread joy in the community by singing and playing guitar with Elderberry Jam, and continued to perform virtually with Lady and the Tramps during the pandemic. He cast the warmest light on those he loved and his generosity to all was unmatched.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Anna Smith, five children, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. His legacy will live on in the stories passed down from generation to generation and the laughter and joy he brought to every life he touched.
Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Jim's life at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, August 26 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jim's name to The Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com for the Smith family.
