He is proceeded in death by his parents, Walter Eugene Slocumb and Doris Mildred Edwards Slocumb; brother, Jim Jackson; and former wife, Elizabeth Slocumb.
James also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army before joining the U.S. Navy and was an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic. He served in Vietnam and the invasion of Grenada and earned the following military awards and decorations; National Defense Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars; Expert Rifle Medal; Sharpshooter M-79 Grenade Launcher; and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
James was a proud die-hard SEC "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer" Alabama "Roll Tide" Football fan who loved watching his team continue the Bear Bryant and Nick Saban legacy!
He received his Associate’s Degree in Science from Mohegan Community College, was a member of the D.A.V., enjoyed reading, flea markets, movies, collecting knives, mechanics (fixing things), a Classic Car enthusiast, socializing, loved cats, and spending time with family.
James is survived by his wife, Laura; daughters, Jeri Price Balzer and Kristine Mossman; grandchildren, Sierra Fry, Andrew Balzer V, Alex McNeal, Zoey McNeal and Kaden Mossman; great grandson, Bentley Bostick; sister, Nancy Griffin; brother, Michael Rucker; sister-in-law, Diane Jackson; and nieces, Allison, Brooke and Emily Jackson.
A service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg at 4:00PM.
