Born on June 10, 1946, Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Slade and Eva Slade, and his brother, Robert Slade.
Jim was a successful business owner in the asphalt paving industry for 35 years, but more than anything, he loved to tell people about Jesus.
He loved fiercely and unconditionally. He was giving, kind, funny, and the best dad and “Poppy.” Jim loved to play golf, fish, boat, and spend time with his grandchildren. Jim had a passion for cars, especially classic Corvettes. He knew no strangers and was a friend to all. He loved photography and studied genealogy. Jim found great joy in looking at family photos and just being in the presence of those he loved. He would gladly give anything he had to anyone in need.
Jim is survived by his college sweetheart, his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Slade; brothers, Lawrence Slade (Brenda), Joseph Slade (Denise), Jon Slade; son, Kelly Slade (Cari); daughter, Stacy Lynch (Craig Lynch); his precious grandchildren, Alexandra, Hunter and Megan Freeman, and many nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Jim.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Virginia on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 12-1pm. The service will begin at 1pm, followed by internment at Williamsburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Williamsburg Young Life Capernaum.
