IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Williamsburg
James Donald Hardin Sr., a member of the Greatest Generation, WWII Vet, and treasured family patriarch, passed away on March 29, 2014. Jim loved talking politics, following the Orioles, and handicapping the horses at the track. He kept his mind active with Bingo and crosswords, and always had a smile and a funny story to share. He was born in West Virginia, spent his childhood in Cumberland and Baltimore, MD, and lived in Northern VA during his career with the US government. Jim moved to Newport News in the early 1980’s.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, and his beloved Shirley. He was also preceded by his children: Donna, Robert, Ray, Michael, and 10 of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sister, Katty; son, Jim (Joanne); grandchildren: David (Dawn), Kim (Liz), Hunter (Chelsea), Ryan, Tiffany (Darryl), and Hannah-Kay; great-grandchildren: Joseph, Coralee, Millie, Ryan Jr., and Diamond.
Gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, April 14, from 5-8pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
The Hardin family would like to thank the staff of Dominion Village for the wonderful care they gave Jim in the last year of his life. Jim (Dad, Gramps) is loved and will be deeply missed.
