James Edmund Bogert, age 73, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Known by family and childhood friends as Jeb, he was born the 2nd son to John Sr. & Carol Bogert on May 11, 1950, in Morristown, NJ. Morristown was where he grew up, graduated high school, attended Morris County Community College, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, in 1970. He dutifully and honorably served his country as a communications and navigation technician for 19yrs, and an avionics superintendent for 3yrs, retiring as Master Sergeant Bogert, in 1992. Following his military retirement, Jeb worked as a service mechanic at Sears, in Merced, CA; a security guard for Ernest and Julio Gallo, in Modesto, CA; a field service representative for Eastman Kodak, in Bossier City, LA; and lastly, a quality control superintendent for Canon Virginia, in Newport News, VA, where he medically retired, in 2009, due to his loss of vision.
Growing up and working in his father’s Gulf service station, Jeb enjoyed cars and working on them; a hobby he shared with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading sci-fi fantasy on his Kindle, and listening to Audible books on his daily walks. A kind and caring person, he was also a dog lover, and enjoyed his time chatting with friends at the dog park, while his fur-baby, Pan, played with other dogs.
He is survived by his two younger sisters, Karen (71yrs) and Sue (59yrs); and older brother, Johnny (75yrs); his 3 children: Jalussee (46yrs), Patricia (42yrs), and William (38yrs); 7 grandchildren: Tiffany (28yrs), Hunter (22yrs), Benjamin (15yrs), Avigayle (13yrs), Joseph (10yrs), Charlie (8yrs), and Lucas (10yrs); and his 1st wife and friendly companion, Boo (68yrs).
SCUBA diving was once a joyous pastime and his ashes will be incorporated into an underwater, memorial reef, designed to be a site-seeing location for fellow SCUBA divers and a habitat for marine life.
A service for James will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia.
