Gregory Stuart Haynes

Gregory Stuart Haynes, 53, of James City County, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday Morning. Mr. Haynes collapsed in his home late Saturday night, and after many attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital on August 23, 2015.

Mr. Haynes was a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and spent his early years volunteering for the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department. He then began his career working in Nuclear Security at the North Anna Power Station in 1981. He then moved to Williamsburg to pursue his career at the Surry Power Station in which he became the Manager of Nuclear Protection Services and worked for Dominion for 34 years.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lynne J. Haynes; his daughter, Leslie Newman and her husband, Ian Newman; mother, Audrey Haynes of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and two brothers and a sister.

He will be missed by his longtime friends and work family at the Surry Power Station. He was preceded in death by his father, Medford Haynes.

The service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, at 1:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A graveside service will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Dr., Williamsburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185 and the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct. Glen Allen, VA 23060.
