He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauren Lee Hairston; mother, Clara Allen Hairston; father, George Hairston Sr.; sisters, Christine Hairston Reese, Bettymae Hairston, and Pearl Cook; uncle, George Allen; and his favorite uncle, Charles Allen.
George worked for 19 years in production for the Ball Metal Corporation. In his personal time, he enjoyed fishing, playing the lottery, cooking, watching westerns, yard sales, and family time. He was also a diehard Miami Dolphins fan.
He is survived by his sons, Carlos Scott (Acquanetta), and Jerry Hairston (Brenda); daughters, Eva Nadine Burkes (Anderson), and Kelly Baskett (John); grandchildren, Latoya Caine, Meikaailayiah Scott, Jerry Hairston Jr., Thomas Crenshaw, Dejuan Burkes, ALeigha Baskett, and his heart, Laurynn Morris; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Don, James, Jacob, Sharon Hairston, and Juanita Hurt; aunts, Elnora Allen-Jackson, and Bernice Allen-Banks; and best friend, Robert Smith Sr., aka “Bobby Shop”; and godson, Lawrence Fowler “Mac”.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with a service to follow on Friday, August 20, at 1:00pm.
