Eugene Lee Simpson

Eugene Lee Simpson “Gene”, 94, passed away on December 8, 2020. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth L. Simpson; parents, Karl & Ruby Adele Simpson; and sister, Oleta Higginbotham. Gene was born in Bellaire, Ohio on October 20, 1926 and was raised in Morgantown, WV. He loved his hometown and the time he spent with his dog Maggie going up and down those hilly streets.

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy and served in an amphibious unit, in the Pacific. After his service, he moved to South Charleston, WV where he met and married his wife, Ruth (which he lovingly called his social secretary). He worked in civil service at the Navel Ordinance Plant for 15 years and then relocated to Yorktown, VA. He worked at the Naval Weapon Station for another 28 years. He retired after 43 years of proud civil services.

Gene and Ruth settled into Williamsburg, VA where they raised 3 wonderful children; Lee Ann, Timothy and Beth. Gene loved his family, and they always came first. He was dedicated to his church and was a faithful member of the Aldersgate Sunday school class at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Gene will be remembered for his wit, laughter, comedy and his sweet tooth!

He is survived by his three children, Lee Ann Ripley, Timothy Simpson and life partner Karen Nutter and Beth Jones. He has 8 grandchildren who called him Grandad and Gdog; Ryan Ripley, Krystle Ripley, Alexis & William Sorenson, Travis & Kristy Simpson, Casey Simpson, Heather & Stacey Burney, Ashley & Daniel Roland, and Stephanie Jones. He has 6 loving great-grandchildren; Vincent, Mavren & Novaleigh Sorenson, Aubrey Burney, Hudson Roland and Rhema Simpson. All were the love of his life and he always told them they should keep learning. He leaves behind many cherished friendships.
