Erin Patricia Barry, age 38, died peacefully at her home in Toano, VA on November 1st, surrounded by family, friends, and her 2 cats. She was born on July 3, 1984, in Jefferson, NJ, and moved to Toano at the age of 9. She graduated from Lafayette High School, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Erin was an avid runner and athlete, completing 6 full marathons, many half-marathons and triathlons. She was a microbrew afficionado, (beer snob) and could often be found after a long run enjoying a pint at a local brewery. She doted on Archie and Dahlia, her rescue cats. With irrepressible enthusiasm, Erin enjoyed every day to the fullest.
After a winding career path, Erin found her passion in teaching, and became a teacher of special-needs students at Norge Elementary. She adored her students and put all her boundless energy into working with children.
Erin is survived by her parents, Theodore Barry and Susan Elizabeth (Broas) Barry; grandfather, Joseph P. Barry, Jr.; brothers, Theodore Barry and Aiden Barry; sister-in-law, Meredith (Goode) Barry; beloved nieces, Elsie Barry and Sophie Barry; and cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends too numerous to mention.
A visitation to celebrate Erin’s life will be held on November 12, 2022 from 4:00-7:00pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Team Quinn (https://teamquinnva.org/) or the ALS Association-DC/MD/VA Chapter (https://www.als.org/dc-md-va).
