Eric S. Harfst, age 80, passed away at his home in Williamsburg on July 6, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 19, 1936 and grew up in Boonton, NJ. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Patricia Harfst; their daughter, Kathleen Anne Gasparini; and his parents, Louise and Theodore Harfst. He is survived by his sons, Eric S. Harfst, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Richard A. Harfst and his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Lisa D'Augelli and her husband Rich; grandchildren, Kevin Gasparini, Bryan Harfst, Krystiona Gillette, Adam and Alex D'Augelli and Jennifer, Colin, and Zachary Harfst; and great-grandchildren, Bridget Harfst and Hunter Gillette. Also surviving are his brother, Jeffrey L. Harfst and his wife Victoria, as well as many other beloved family members and friends. Eric attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, graduating with the Class of 1958. While there, he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, establishing life-long friendships. He then served proudly in the U.S. Army Finance Corps at Fort McClellan, AL, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He returned to New Jersey, first in Glen Ridge where he was President of the Jaycees, then in Ridgewood and Upper Saddle River. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from New York University. Eric was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and culminated his career at The Frassetto Companies as the Vice President for Finance. Upon retirement, Eric and Patricia settled in Williamsburg, VA, where he was an active member of the Ford's Colony community, volunteered for Vibrant Life Ministries and at the Mariner's Museum, and taught accounting at Thomas Nelson Community College. He enjoyed his final years at Verena at the Reserve. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13 from 10:30 a.m. until the memorial service begins at 11:30, at Nelson Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. Light refreshments will follow the service. Interment will be on Thursday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY.
