Ella Scott Tapscott (“Scotty”) departed this life on January 24, 2015. The younger of two children, she was born to Ray Carter Scott and Margaret Hockett Scott on October 17, 1930, in Fluvanna County, Virginia. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1951, she spent most of her adult years in Yorktown, Virginia, only recently becoming a resident of James City County.
Although during her years in York County, she served on a number of local, regional and state education-related boards and committees, her ongoing focus was always her family. Predeceased by her parents and her sister, Anna Scott Martin, of Charlottesville, Virginia, she is survived by her husband by her husband of 64 years, Robert J. Tapscott; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nona and Christopher Dolmetsch of Hurricane, West Virginia, Tracy Tapscott and Kurt Kunze of Fairfax, and Leslie and Kenneth Letchworth of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Kendra Weaver and her husband, Kirk of Brooktondale, New York, Jordan Letchworth of Laurel, Maryland, and Kristin Kunze of Charlottesville and Fairfax; one great-grandchild, Adrian Weaver of Brooktondale, New York, with his sibling due in June; a step-grandson, Craig Klemp, his wife, Annie and their son, Elliott, of San Mateo, California. She is also survived by some very special nieces and nephews.
At her request, there will be no public memorial service or celebration of her life. Inurnment, which will be private, will be at a later date.
