Edith Branham Young, age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 13, 1935, in Pike County, Kentucky, Edith shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with her late husband, Hugh Donald Young of Hackleburg, Alabama, before his passing. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Northern Virginia where they raised their three children, Teresa, Robin, and Billy, before relocating to Williamsburg in 2005.
Edith was the heart of her family--a phenomenal homemaker who found joy in having her loved ones gathered around her. Her kitchen was a place of both nourishment and love, as she was celebrated for her exceptional cooking skills. She found peace and purpose in tending to her garden, working with her hands in the earth, and creating beauty in her surroundings.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted born-again Christian, Edith had a deep passion for the Lord and an impressive understanding of the Bible, which she studied faithfully through her daily devotional readings.
Edith leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue through her surviving family: her daughter, Teresa Hedrick and husband Ronald; sons, Robin and wife Connie, and Billy; her grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, Kristopher, Kristen, Wendy, and Amy; and her great-grandchildren, Leah, Miranda, Mallory, Annabel, and Abby.
Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Edith are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. A service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185.
Arrangements under the direction of Nelsen Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA.
