Dave was born November 8, 1960, in Watertown, New York. He attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, before earning his master’s degree from Michigan State University. He married his best friend and love of his life, Dana, on September 12, 1992. Dave’s career with the Commonwealth of Virginia spanned more than 25 years, with the last 18 years at the Department of Conservation and Recreation in Richmond. Dave was devoted to protecting the natural resources of the Commonwealth.
Dave was predeceased by his mother and father, Winnie and Clark Dowling.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dana, and loving daughter, Holly Grace; his sister, Sue (Hugh) Gardner; nieces Lisa (Mark) Monahan and Laura Gardner.
A service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 10:00am at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1677 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, Virginia, with refreshments to follow the service. A private interment is planned.
The family wishes to extend deeply felt thanks to the VCU Massey Cancer Center Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and the Medical Respiratory Intensive Care Unit; and Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.
