Christine Rehberger died peacefully on May 22, 2023 after facing the challenge of stomach cancer for 19 months. Through chemotherapy, radiosurgery, and immune therapy, she faced those challenges with hope, optimism, strength, and grace. Hope, optimism, strength, and grace characterized all of Chris' life. Throughout her life she was friend to many and tried to see the good in everyone.
Chris was born in Richmond, VA in 1949. She was raised by her grandmother after her mother died when Chris was seven. In 1970, while working at the Virginia Department of Health she went on a blind date with her future husband Glenn. They married four months after that first date and were together for nearly 53 years until her death. Chris and Glenn's mother, Hazel, became very close and often traveled together like mother and daughter. She called Hazel "mom"
In addition to her husband, Glenn, she leaves behind numerous friends, who supported her during her illness. The medical professionals at Virginia Oncology and Sentara who treated Chris deserve special thanks.
Chris loved flowers and plants as well as her pets and all animals in general. Because she loved her shelter pets so much, please consider a donation in her name to Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
A gathering of friends to remember and celebrate Chris' life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg on May 31 at 10:00am. Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond will be private. Share condolences at nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
