Carole Sue Allen, 84, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away at her home on January 7, 2024. She was surrounded by her four children and the watchful eye of her departed husband, Bud Allen, who preceded her in death in 2020.
Carole was born on March 20, 1939 to Nioma and Harold Sherman in Royal Oak, Michigan. While attending Clara Barton Junior High School she met her future husband, Bud, and the two of them never stopped dating! In 2020, shortly before Bud’s passing, Carole and Bud celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Music was always an important part of Carole’s life. She learned piano at an early age and was a member of many singing chorals. The family has many recordings of Carole and Bud singing duets, like the classic, Girl of My Dreams.
The couple moved from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to Williamsburg in 1998. They quickly enjoyed a very active social life. Carole was a patron of the arts and with her husband Bud, enjoyed long walks in Colonial Williamsburg and around the Ford’s Colony community with their dogs.
Carole will be remembered fondly by her friends as an avid gardener, reader, and especially a fierce board game competitor. Carole will be greatly missed by her children, Susan Walton, Sandy Russell, Steve Allen and Tom Allen. Her legacy will be carried on by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 24, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, at 3:00 pm. Refreshments and appetizers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations towards Amedysis Hospice, 109 Bulifants Blvd., Suite B, Williamsburg, Virginia, 23188.
