Betty Jo was born on July 30, 1934 at Itmann, West Virginia as the first daughter of Hubbert M. and Pansy Smith Hale. She grew up in Princeton, West Virginia. She graduated from Princeton High School and attended Bluefield Business College. She worked as a teller, bookkeeper and Secretary to the President of the Princeton Bank and Trust Company.
She was married on August 18, 1962 to McIvor L. Parker, Jr. of Arlington, Virginia. They moved to Falls Church, Virginia and subsequently they moved to Springfield, Virginia and lived there for 30 years. During those years, they enjoyed Square Dancing and numerous vacations to various parts of the United States.
Betty Jo was very talented at various crafts and pursued many craft projects. Over the years, they visited Colonial Williamsburg many times and upon retirement, they moved here. Betty Jo was deeply involved with the Woman’s Club of Williamsburg GFWC while continuing to pursue many craft projects.
Betty Jo was predeceased by her father, mother, sister Lois Ann and brother Charles. She is survived by her husband, McIvor, and brother Jack Hale of Alexandria, Virginia.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25th from 3-5pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Woman’s Club of Williamsburg-GFWC Scholarship Fund, P.O.
