MSG Simms served more than 26 years as a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He completed two tours in Vietnam, three tours in Germany and one in Turkey. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal w/1 oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, w/1 oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/palm and eight Good Conduct Medals.
Upon retiring from active duty, MSG Simms was employed for 20 years at the US Army Transportation School, Fort Eustis, VA, as an instructor and supervisory training specialist. He received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service when he retired from civilian service.
MSG Simms was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a graduate of St. Leo University.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Crutchfield Simms; son, James Anthony (Tony) Simms and daughter-in-law, Kawana Saddler Simms (Atlanta, GA); a beloved cousin, Verneine S. Monroe (Tampa. FL); and his devoted nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29 at 11am.
