Faith Ann Wiers age 86, of Celeryville, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, May 5, 2019 after succumbing to congestive heart failure. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Faith was born in Grand Rapids, MI to John K DeHaan and Grace Ganzeveldt, on May 19, 1933. Tragically, Faith lost her mother when she was but two. When she was eight, her father married Bea Buurma .
Faith is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Corwin Wiers, whom she was married to for 52 years; and her youngest daughter, Susan Joyce and her brother, John DeHaan. Three of her sisters survive her: Jean Spoelstra, Ruth VanDam, and Eunice Bossenbroek..
She was mother to daughter Barbara Ann (Steven Esch); Debra Jean (Greg Hutchinson), and son: Thomas Edward (Paula Bouman); grandchildren Kyle Esch (Mary), Kristen (James Farmer), Lauren Hutchinson, and Hunter and Paige Wiers; great grandchildren Cal, Levi, Mae, Lorelei, and Lila;
Faith attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids with the intention of earning a nursing degree. Those plans changed, however, when she met the love of her life, her husband James (Corwin) and traded her nursing scrubs for life in Celeryville. It was a life she fully embraced. She and Cor started a family and soon her calling as an incredible Mom to her children became very clear.
Kind and loving, Faith was able to see the fruition of her life’s work embodied in the family she raised. Always quick to praise and even quicker to help, she was an incredible asset to her friends, her church and her family. Perhaps it was her quiet elegance that best defined her or maybe her intense loyalty and love for her family.
A terrific golfer, Faith captured the Willard Golf Club Women’s championship a record 11 times over four decades. Her family would tell you that it was the kitchen where she had most of her championship moments. Others might tell you of her love and skill of gardening. Regardless, this wonderful woman of faith will be immensely missed.
