Wilma Jean (Thornburg) Fraley, 88, a lifetime Wichita resident, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020. Wilma was born on May 27, 1932 to Ellis and Beulah Thornburg in Wichita, KS, the only daughter of four children. After graduating from Wichita North High School, Wilma was a secretary at Boeing Aircraft Company.
Wilma married Robert “Bob” Fraley in 1956 and they were blessed with 60 years of marriage. They had three children, daughters Pam and Sandy and son Bill. After the birth of their first child, Wilma left the work place for her most challenging job – that of a mother. Wilma was an active participant in her children’s lives, from PTA to attending their sporting and musical events, and ensured family vacations were a staple of summer. In later life, Wilma and Bob continued their love of travel, with their favorite trips being those shared with their entire family. After raising her children, Wilma returned to the workforce at multiple retail jobs. Wilma’s love of Mickey Mouse was well known and not surprising as the two shared the ability to brighten the lives of those around them with their smiles and kindness.
Wilma is survived by her daughters, Pam Fraley and Sandy (Brad) Woley; son, Bill (Darla) Fraley and their children, Kayla (Mike) Vaughn and Kristen Fraley; and her brother, Dale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her infant sons, Donald, Ronald and Thomas; her parents, Ellis and Beulah Thornburg; and her brothers, Wayne and Herschel.
The family would like to extended their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Dove Estates Memory Haven and Serenity Hospice Care.
