William Herman Shively Sr., age 90, of Derby, Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was born February 19, 1933 in Walnut, Kansas to Josephine Ellen Elmer Shively and John Raymond Shively Sr..
Bill came to Wichita after high school graduation in 1951. He worked at Boeing for about a year, then for GMC, then BF Goodrich Co, being promoted to service manager. He raced and sponsored cars at 81 Speedway. He started Shively Tire stores in 1959 gradually owning four stores. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1968. He was past president of the Kansas Quarter Horse Racing in 1980-1981. He was instrumental in being a lobbyist and getting Parimutuel Horse Racing passed in Kansas. His love of activities included golfing and horse racing where he won approximately 100 races in as many as 17 states and produced 5 champions.
Bill is survived by his wife of one year, Susie Fair Shively; daughter Yvonne " Bonnie" Brewer (Alan); son Michael Shively; son William H. Shively Jr. (Glenda); daughter Dana Wappelhorst (Ken); step-children Larry Ewart (Anita); Carla Wright (Wayne); brother Jim Shively; sister Mary Ann Sedan; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Shively; son Kent Shively; Wife Eva Ewart (mother of Larry and Carla) his father John Raymond Shively Sr.; mother Josephine Ellen Elmer Shively; brother John "Jack" Shively Jr.; and sister Evelyn Sevart.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St Mary Catholic Parish Church, 2300 E Meadowlark Rd, Derby, KS 67037. Followed by a Rosary at 10:00 AM and a Catholic Mass at 10:30 AM.
