Lowry, Wayne C., 81, retired Topeka Policeman and KS Fire Marshall Inspector, passed away June 10, 2011, on his 60th wedding anniversary. Born in Meade, KS, February 13, 1930, he grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Ann Hogle. He attended Washburn University. He was a passionate sports fan; an avid supporter of the KSU Wildcats; active in athletics as a player, coach, and umpire. He was the founder and director of the Topeka Police Athletic League and led the Police Explorer Scouts. Enjoyed volunteering with the Foster Grandparent Reading Program and the Transportation Program at the First Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Preceded in death by parents, James and Ruby Lowry; siblings, James W. Lowry, Verla, Della, and Faye Lathrop. Survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; son, Matthew, Topeka; daughter, Tamara (Bill) Reynolds, Lynchburg, VA; brother, Gordon (Margaret) Lowry, Valley Falls; sister, Verda Seiler, Tulsa, OK; 4 grandchildren, T.J. Cooper (Shellie), MariAnn Lowry (Frankie), Alison and Ryan Reynolds; 5 great-grandchildren; Zachary, Ashton, and Trason Cooper, Trenton Lowry, and Emilya Cruz. Visitation, Friday, June 17, 4-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 W. 13th. Services, Saturday, June 18, 11 a.m., First Presbyterian Church, 525 N Broadway. Graveside service, Monday, June 20, 12:30 p.m. Mt. Hope Cemetery (Topeka, KS). Donations may be made to the church.
