Spivey, Rev. Warren Hughes, bid farewell to the cares of this world on June 20, 2015. Warren was born on August 2, 1925, in Danville, Virginia, the fourth of nine children, born to Mitchell Leslie and Berta Jewel (Hughes) Spivey. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, in the Mediterranean Theatre, making the invasion of Marseilles, France, being injured twice. Soon after his return home, he felt the call to preach. He attended the Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and was ordained into the ministry in 1954. He married Pauline Claire Cowan in Fort Scott, KS, on March 6, 1955. He started several churches in Texas and Virginia, and what became Southgate Country Baptist Church here in Wichita. Warren loved his family, and his work with people. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, and his son Raymond. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, and his daughter Jewell (Bob) Brown, and grandchildren Sundie Michelle, Jason and Allen Brown. Visitation with the family Wednesday, June 24 at Lakeview Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service on Thursday, June 25, 2 p.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, 3600 W. 2nd, with burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
