Combs, Wanda Marie left behind the sickness and pain of this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2013. She was born on June 2, 1934 to Hubert & Edna Ledgerwood in Yale, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood years growing up during the Depression on the farm outside of Drumright, Oklahoma and attended Harmony School, a one-room school in the country. Following 8th grade graduation Wanda went to Cushing High School. She married the love of her life, Wilbur Combs of Ripley, Oklahoma, her husband of 56 years, and as newlyweds they moved to Oklahoma City where Wanda worked as a telephone operator and Wilbur worked for the OKT Railroad. The aircraft industry brought them to Wichita in the late 50s where they made their home. She was a loving housewife to her husband and mom to her 3 children and as the kids entered Jr. High and High School, Wanda returned to work at Coleman and eventually Beech Aircraft where she retired in 1989. After retirement Wanda looked forward to an active life of travel, activities and doing things for her family. Unfortunately due to a rare medical mishap, she sustained a debilitating nerve injury that left her paralyzed in one leg with chronic pain. Even though she suffered much in this life, the Lord was her strength and Salvation and she continued life the best she could, honoring the Lord with all that she had. She loved her morning times of reading God’s Word and praying to the Lord for her family. She was a member of Evangel Assembly of God for 35 years. Wanda loved the times when all the family would gather, she kept up with politics, out of necessity became a sports fan and enjoyed watching KU basketball games with her family, enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, step grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She loved to read books on end-time events and Bible prophecy and the promise of the coming of our Lord brought her much comfort. Wanda leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Wilbur L. Combs; son Mark(Starlene) Combs of Andover; daughters Connie (Ted) Pauley of Pretty Prairie; Linda (Randy) Esterline of Wichita. Grandchildren Cameron Combs and Fiancée Emily Smith; Jordan, Weston and Cheira Combs; Matthew Goolsby; and Shelby (Brenton) Miles along with step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Brothers Bill (Verna) Ledgerwood; Elmer (LaRita) Ledgerwood and her sister, Vera Chandler, all of Cushing and a host of other family members, friends and a church family who loved her very much. Already in Heaven waiting for Wanda was her mother and dad, her brother Frank Ledgerwood, her father and mother in law, John W. & Dora Combs, and many wonderful brothers and sisters in law, nieces and a nephew who welcomed her with loving arms. Services will be Tuesday, April 30, at 11 am at Evangel Assembly of God, 11444 W. 21st St. Wichita, KS with internment following at Resthaven. Visitation time with the family will be at Resthaven on Monday, April 29, from 6-8pm.
