After graduating from St. Francisville High School, she worked in a variety of administrative positions for over 55 years and for several organizations. She was also an active member of Douglas Avenue Assembly of God in Wichita, serving there faithfully in many capacities for over 35 years.
Virginia leaves a wonderful legacy of living for Jesus for a lifetime. When she wasn’t busy caring for her family, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing in church. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys. She is honored and esteemed by all who knew her love.
Survivors include her son, Keith Vanwey (Kim) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Kelly Trego (Scott) of Goddard, KS; grandchildren, Braden (Vanessa) Trego, Kelsey Vanwey, Jesolyn Trego, Kourtney Vanwey, Tyler (Makayla) Trego, Keaton (Hadley) Vanwey, Zachary Trego, Kaden Vanwey, and Kylee Trego; and continuing with great-grandchildren Michael Trego, Danielle Trego and Ruston Vanwey. She is also survived by her brothers, John Gher (Susan) and Bob Gher (Tamara) of Lawrenceville, IL, as well as brother, Ron Gher of Groves, TX.
She was preceded in death, following 62 years of marriage, by her husband Larry; her parents; brother, Bill Gher and sister-in-law, Sherry (Brian) Gher; and her mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Lucille Vanwey.
A Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025, 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CST with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM CST and Committal Service in the Garden of Gospels, following. All at Resthaven Mortuary & Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. HWY. 54, Wichita, Kansas.
