Mrs. Clemence was my first grade teacher during the 1976-77 school year at Gardiner Elementary.  Although she was only there for 9 months of my life, her influence has lasted a lifetime. Despite my stubborn resistance, she taught me to read.  That has been a gift that has greatly enriched my life.  Reading helped me to excel academically, placing  me near the top of my class throughout my school years. It has been not only a source of knowledge, but has also opened up worlds of adventure.  I am an avid reader, largely thanks to her inspiration.  I wish there were more teachers like her today that could stimulate such an enthusiasm for reading.
Often our impact on other people's lives extends far beyond the time we say goodbye.  I failed to express to Mrs. Clemence the importance of her role in my life.  But, I was fortunate enough to share my sentiments with her family.  I sincerely thank them for sharing her with me and the hundreds of other kids whose lives she has touched.

Mrs Clemence was my first grade teacher at Gardiner Elementay School in 1975. She was a very good teacher, and a kind woman. I will never forget that grade. Im so glad her and I had the chance to meet.
