Runyan, Thelma A. (Tommie), went to be with the Lord on Monday April 16, 2018 surrounded by her family in Andover, Kansas at the age of 81. Tommie was born in Conception , MO on January 21, 1937 to Julius and Odilia (Walter) Durbin. She was united in marriage to Jesse "Duane" Runyan on May 13, 1961 in Hutchinson, KS and welcomed a son and daughter into their home. She is survived by her son, Phillip (Kirsten) Runyan of Oklahoma and daughter Patty (David) Wike of Wichita. Also surviving Tommie are her 6 grandchildren, Keith (Natalie), Seth and Kyle Runyan, Riley Mize, Travis (Kerrie) Wike and Kristen (Nick) McKeage. She was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, 7 boys, Cooper, Christopher, Tanner, Maddox, Landon, Jacob, Malachi, 5 girls, Analysse, Ella, Julia, Leeyah and Addie. She is also survived by her 3 brothers, Robert and Cecil "Laverne" Durbin of Montana, Francis Durbin of, Missouri and 2 sisters, Odilia Wells of Iowa and Betty Bright of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
Tommie Graduated from Jefferson High School in Conception Jct., MO and furthered her studies graduating from St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK with a degree in Radiology as a registered Radiology Technician in 1958. She was a member of American Registry of Radiology and Kansas Radiology Technology. She worked in many phases of radiology, being the first and only registered technician in 1971 for Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, KS remaining there for 16 years and leading the department. She moved to Bel Aire, KS in 1985 working in various medical offices and hospitals. She went to work in later years as a home health assistant, giving people quality life and lots of love and care until her retirement at the age of 76.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7pm with rosary following from 7 to 8pm on Friday April 20, 2018. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10am on Saturday April 21, 2018 both at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. She will be buried next to her loving husband, Duane, at Kechi Cemetery in Kechi, KS. Memorials can be made to the Thelma Runyan Medical Expense Fund c/o Lakeview Funeral Home.
